My Eat, Pray, Love affair with Viking cruises continues to grow, starting with day one on the Viking Sky. This day was all about relaxing, renewing and recharging as I explored this brand new, state of the art vessel.
Eat
My first morning onboard the Viking Sky began with a cup of coffee on my stateroom veranda. With all the cruises I have taken over the years, this was the first time I’ve had a coffee maker in my stateroom. Two thumbs up from this coffee devotee. I enjoyed a delightful breakfast of smoked salmon and fresh berries in The Restaurant. For lunch, I grazed the buffet in the World Café, trying small bites, all the while fighting the urge to pile my plate high. So many dishes to try, not enough pants with expandable waists to tempt me beyond bites. Dinner was room service (24 hours and included with your cruise). I indulged with a Caesar salad and Spaghetti Pomodoro.
Pray
The focus of my first day on board the Viking Sky was to quiet down, to unwind and stay in the moment, becoming ‘one’ with this beautiful ship. While that may sound like a whole lot of hokey, I’ve just come off a very stressful time in my life. Having the luxury of stillness is indeed the answer to a prayer. Day one was all about “il dolce far niente” the sweetness of doing nothing.
From lounging on the deck, sipping cappuccino and gazing over at Montreal, to taking part in the Nordic tradition of hot and cold spa rituals the day exceeded all expectations.
Love
The crew is marvelous. I think they already know me better than I know myself. They exude a desire to please. Dwi, our stateroom attendant is one of the most joyful souls I’ve met. As with all Viking staff, he anticipates everything. He is the Amazing Kreskin of the Viking Sky.
Stay Tuned for Day Two. I’m exploring Quebec City with a local!
