Just a short drive from Baton Rouge, Louisiana you’ll find The Crown Jewel of Louisiana’s River Road, the Houmas House Plantation and Gardens, a 16 room grand antebellum estate filled with period antiques, Louisiana artwork and spectacular gardens.

Beautiful inside and out, we got lost in the history and the amazing landscape. The tour guides are amazing and transport you back to the hay day of the Houmas House.

You won’t walk way hungry, as the Plantation is the home of Latil’s Landing Restaurant, Cafe’ Burnside, Le Petite Houmas Restaurant and The Wine Cellars of Houmas House where the menus rival those of the great Sugar Barons of the 1800’s.

Many television shows and movies have been shot at the Houmas House including the 1964 film “Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte” starring actress Betty Davis and the room in which Ms. Davis stayed while filming has been preserved as part of the Houmas House tour.

There is said to be a ‘unique’ visitor in the hallway and on the stairs. Tour guides and guest have reported seeing the ghost of a little girl, dressed in a blue dress with dark eyes and brown hair. Usually sighted in the morning or later in the afternoon the ‘spirited’ little girl seems curious about what’s going on but disappears when  ever she’s approached.
