Ahhhh, the elusive ‘Peace of Mind’. Nothing like a pandemic to send one’s anxiety into overload. I don’t know about you, but the unknown, especially when it comes to my loved ones, scares the hell out of me.

When I was asked to partner with Verizon and their new Smart Care watch, I jumped at the chance to see what it can do..

So, let me tell you a story, about a lovely lady.

I have an amazing aunt. Well, technically she’s my best friend’s aunt, but I’ve adopted her as mine. She’s 81 years young, hip and beautiful, with long flowing white locks. She has a quick wit, keeps me on my toes, and we laugh loud and often. We watch movies and eat (she’s a fantastic cook), and she listens intently while I ramble on. She has three daughters of her own, nieces, nephews, and a grandson and still finds room in her heart for me. In case you hadn’t guessed, I adore her.

Aunt Lois is the epitome of aging independently. She drives (in New York City no less), is well informed, and a hot ticket on many a social calendar. She is grace personified.

Those who know me well know I’m a worrier, and a warrior, but mostly a worrier. When I had the opportunity to explore Verizon’s Care Smart watch, Aunt Lois immediately came to the top of my mind. She’s pretty tech-savvy for an octogenarian but like many of us, she has a learning curve. She navigates her smart tv with ease, her MacBook, and email like a millennial and Facetimes although much of the time she’s out of frame, though her ceiling looks great.

Care Smart

Care Smart is perfect for her active lifestyle and, at the same time, gives her ‘girls’ peace of mind. We’ve been exploring what the Smart Care watch does and how she can maximize how uses it in her day to day activities.

She’s been wearing it for a couple of weeks now and with it monitors her daily steps, has her important contacts at her fingertips, and sets daily reminders like appointments and times to take meds. She even uses the timer when cooking. She’s still getting used to the features and like all her other tech gadgets it will soon be second nature.

Peace of Mind

Here’s where the peace of mind for the rest of us comes in. As her trusted contacts, we can see on her Care Smart dashboard where she’s at. When you have an active senior in your life this is a game-changer. For example, she decided to go to dinner with her neighbor but forgot to mention it. She left her cell phone at home. But, wearing the Care Smart, not only can I see where she is, I can call or text her to which she can respond on Verizon 4G LTE. Herein lies my peace of mind.
