Happy President’s Day
With just a few hours notice before the MidLife Road Trip teams arrival, Watertown, NY the 1st small town on our Most Patriotic route jumped into action and we were whisked away by a police escort as we drove into town & were taken to the Army’s 237th Birthday Ball!
What an honor it was to meet Medal of Honor Recipients Kenneth Stumpf and Don “Doc” Ballard on our trip to Gainesville, Texas. We had a wonderful guided historical tour of downtown, visited the Home Grown Hero Walking Trail, watched the Pedal for the Medal Bike Parade on Medal of Honor Boulevard, and were guests of honor at an ice cream social where we visited with locals and learned what patriotism means to Gainesville.
We drove 7200 miles across the U.S. on our last trip for Rand McNally and USA Today‘s Best of the Road rally. It’s really hard to prepare for a trip of that magnitude. We had a blast on our Best of the Road visit to Mandan, ND. Located just across the Missouri River from Bismarck, Mandan is the modern day wild west passing down the tradition of rodeo to generation after generation. Talk to anyone in Mandan, and the first thing they say is “You should be here on the 4th of July” … It is a sight to behold and a gathering of friends and family like no other.

The 4th stop on our Rand McNally with USA TODAY Best of the Road Rally took us to Enterprise, Alabama which is called The City of Progress. They are a thriving community founded on the principle that with the right mix of people, adversity can easily turn into diversity. They have a rich military heritage because of their close relationship and proximity to neighboring Fort Rucker, the Home of Army Aviation.
Midlife Road Trip was featured on WFLA with Gayle Guyardo while on the #BestOfTheRoad rally.
The journey is indeed part of our Rand McNally & USA TODAY ‘Best of the Road‘ adventure as we share with the gang on the syndicated morning show Daytime! http://youtu.be/m5TslJUpCK4
We used to measure the significance of a journey by how many fun things we got to do, the great things we got to eat and the beautiful things we got to see. Since our Rand McNally/ USA TODAY Best of the Road trip this summer, we measure the significance of our journey by the friends we made, the lives we touched & how we changed and grew as people. We have the utmost respect for the four other teams we we competed against, [...]
