Gainesville texas B & BHave you ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast? It’s a nice alternative to staying a hotel and a great way to get a feel for a community. We recently stayed at Miss Olivia’s B & B on our way through Gainesville, Texas on a cross-country road trip. After weeks of hotels it was a welcome change to slow down the hectic pace. There’s nothing else quite like sitting on the front porch of a B & B,  sipping an afternoon lemonade or a cup of morning coffee and watching the world go by.

A great way to decide if Bed & breakfasting is for you (it’s not for everyone) is to check out  the Bed and Breakfast Inns website.  They have destination guides, innkeeper blogs, recipes and travel tips. It’s a great resource and place to start to find a B and B that matches your personality! There are numerous B & B directories and we suggest that you do a little research to find the right fit.

There are B & B’s that have a history such as The Shady Lady. In the late 1800′s the downstairs was the nicest saloon in town, but upstairs one would find the real entertainment. Madame Sarah purportedly feathered the nest of ‘soiled doves’ until the saloon owner, Mr. Hosapple, fell in love and married her. Today, it’s the Shady Lady, a fabulous B & B in Gainesville, Texas.

If individually appointed suites and a gourmet breakfast in bed are more your style, than the Meranova Guest Inn in Dunedin, Florida might be for you. You’ll find luxury accommodations in a stylish and personalized service in a contemporary bed and breakfast setting.

If whimsy is your fancy, try the Dog Bark Park Inn  bed & breakfast guesthouse inside the World’s Biggest Beagle. Guests enter the body of the beagle from a private 2nd story deck.

Foodies will enjoy the Pomegranate Inn  where breakfast is an art created by innkeeper and  cookbook author, Dana Moos. Dana’s breakfasts feature fresh produce in imaginative ways, with dishes like Asparagus Parmesan Crepes, Blackberry Scones or Grapefruit Brulee.

Wine Lovers perhaps Greystone Estate in the Vines  on a 2-acre estate amidst the backdrop of a vineyard setting is your idea of the perfect getaway.

Regardless of where you decide to stay, do your research. Bed & Breakfasting is far more personal and intimate than staying in a hotel. Finding the right  B & B ‘style’ for you will make for amazing memories!
