It is a table beautifully set, with flowers, fine china and crystal. It is about food, expertly and lovingly prepared from the best ingredients. It is about wine, free flowing and toasts to friendship and good times. Gemütlichkeit embodies what Austria is all about.
We had the pleasure and privilege to experience Gemütlichkeit first hand at a dinner hosted by the Austrian Tourism Office in Brooklyn’s Red Hook,. The dinner, so artfully prepared by Austrian Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner, was one of the most memorable we have ever had. The setting was a gorgeous waterfront loft with views of the Manhattans skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Every intricate detail was carried out to perfection, from the wines selected by Leo Schneemann to the gorgeous tablescape to the sounds of Mozart and Haydn played by the Brooklyn Symphony. Saying it was magical would be an understatement.
