There is a smartphone app for everything and everyone. I like to think of myself as young at heart. However, if you want to feel ancient just read articles about ‘apps for old people’. While most of them refer to anyone 55+ as ‘seniors’ (cringe) I still can’t help but feel young. The consensus from the multitude of articles I have read thinks that the only apps anyone over 55 years old needs or is interested in has to do with our bodies falling apart. Lawd knows they may be, but who wants to be reminded of that?
Don’t get me wrong, these apps are great and have their place. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a magnifying app that enlarges impossibly small print?
Just because you get a hip (or two) replaced doesn’t mean you still can’t be hip. Aging doesn’t automatically mean you are clueless to the latest and greatest. Mock me and laugh if you will but many folks 55 plus embrace technology. We use it to do more than just look up our aches and pains, or as a reminder to take medication or to monitor our blood pressure. Nothing raises my blood pressure faster than being referred to a “senior citizen” (although I’ll gladly use the discounts).
And, while I am aging (gracefully I might add) I do not see myself through the same lens as advertisers and pharmaceutical companies that pander their products to me only to learn the side effects will give me perpetual diarrhea, while in the very next breath sing the virtues of sexy adult diapers.
I’m strong, smart, savvy and tremendously underrated. I travel in style; I dine and seek exclusive, life-enhancing experiences. I am not a collector of things but a connoisseur of life’s amazing moments.
Aging does have its perks.
I still partner with great brands that recognize my value. I appreciate a great deal and I am all about a bargain without being insulted in the process. Verizon’s 55 plus is a standout when it comes to respecting those of us in this age group. They have a special offer for those 55 and older in Florida, Illinois, Texas, Missouri, and Detroit. The deal includes unlimited talk and text so you can use your favorite apps wherever, whenever for$80/mo for 2 lines (Plus taxes and fees.)
AND, I’m excited to be one of Verizon’s 55plus coaches at a series of upcoming workshops in Florida. I hope you’ll join me!
These workshops focus on how to make the most of your mobile device, working with personalized coaches who will answer all of your questions! We cover everything from how to take and share great vacation photos and videos, to the latest apps (sneak peek below) that will help make your life easier. It’s fun, and a non-intimidating way to maximize what you can do with your phone. It’s personalized to what YOU would like to know about YOUR device. It doesn’t matter what phone carrier you have or type of phone, we’re there to help you use what you have in the best way possible. It’s an hour that’s well worth attending. Did I mention it’s free and you’ll even have the chance to take home a special tech gift (while supplies last)?
